The Iowa Law Review is recognized as an excellent source of legal scholarship. The Iowa Law Review has been cited over 52,000 times on HeinOnline, ranking it among the twenty most-often-cited journals. A 2022 study by Washington & Lee University also ranks the Iowa Law Review as the nineteenth most popular journal for overall citations. The Law Review is committed to maintaining our historical reputation and continuing our recent success by selecting quality legal scholarship. We invite you to join in our success by submitting your article for publication.

The Iowa Law Review does not have a maximum word count or page limit, although the length of the manuscript may be a factor we consider in the selection process. We are happy to review full-length articles as well as slightly shorter essays. The Law Review does not publish book reviews or review submissions by students other than Law Review student writers.

The Iowa Law Review invites submission of unsolicited manuscripts through Scholastica. We do not accept submissions by email. If you submit your article through Scholastica, we also encourage you to use Scholastica to update us regarding pending offers and expedite requests.

Please observe the following requirements for your submission:

  • Manuscripts must conform to:
    • The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (21st ed. 2020),
    • The Redbook: A Manual on Legal Style (4th ed. 2018), and
    • The Conventions of the Iowa Law Review.
  • Manuscripts should be submitted in Microsoft Word format.
  • Manuscripts cannot be returned, except on receipt of $10 postage and handling.
